pattern-mixing • family trail walk

little ones, outdoors, personal, we are family
Spread the Love

There’s a fire trail that runs behind our house, & it’s like having a backyard that is really long & narrow & leads to the “special drink store,” where my husband takes the girls on Sundays to indulge in this Japanese soda that comes in a glass bottle with a marble in it. We’ve walked the trail in every season–breezy summer, crisp autumn, chilly winter, & now green spring. I’m glad I took my camera on this walk to capture my oldest daughter’s complete freedom with fashion (stripes, plaids, & knitted patterns all mixing beautifully), & just the mundane miracle of everyday life with my family. This was our baby’s first trail walk; held tightly in the arms of daddy, he slept through the whole thing.

The girls raced each other over & over again on the damp dirt trail…

Here’s Zoë letting Zara win, & I wish I had a picture of the look on Zoë’s face after, because she looked more joyful & proud of herself letting her sister win than she did when she won herself. Such kindness & compassion in a child!

  1. Your photos are totally fun to look through. I have a brand new niece and a brand new nephew. I will definitely pass this website on to their parents.

  2. Alice, I see so much of your spirit in these photos–soulful, creative, and passionately in love with all that is beautiful, pure, and innocent.

  3. Perfect and convenient location! The kids are so adorable in photos. -Working your magic!

  4. Alice your photos are so so beautiful. If only you lived down under I’d be booking you for a shoot! xxx

  5. They looked so happy! Love every picture you took. Zoe is such a loving big sister. I saw the picture that Mei had her hands in her waist–I guess she was not very happy that she was left behind or something? Haha! I love Zoe’s fashion sense. So free and colorful. I will ask her to be my fashion consultant.

  6. Love Zoe’s bold sense of fashion! These photos really do capture the beauty of everyday family life. Makes me just want to take a time out and take a walk in the park with my son 🙂
