I had to categorize these as both “dance” & “pregnancy” portraiture, because they most definitely are! Michelle & I have been friends since our days of dancing together at UCLA. We’ve known each other now more than half our lives, & this last fall, we celebrated our 40th birthdays in November. And to make the occasion even more special, we were both also just 3 weeks apart in our last pregnancies, & both expecting our third child. Michelle traveled down to LA to see me, & we took the opportunity to do some pictures–of course! Michelle has been one of my muses since our college years–her beauty is unique, timeless, exotic, romantic, & being a dancer, she moves with such grace & ease. During our photo session, she embodied the ecstatic feeling of carrying life inside her–and here these pictures I think celebrate the dance of life…

amazing aimée • dance portraits
beauty & boudoir, dance, outdoorsI had just done portraits for Aimée’s son Marco, & she asked about doing some headshots for a project she is working on–choreography to the poetry of Rumi. I was so excited by the idea of creating portraits that would be interpretations of Aimée as the poetry–romantic, magical, mystical, earthy, sexy, dramatic. I had such an inspired session with her–and was so impressed by how game & courageous she was to move & expand into these different versions of herself. Make-up artist, Lizette Perez, created two distinct looks for Aimée, & she embodied both with such ease. Between locations, Aimée & talked about Life–and in these portraits, I hope that she sees what a butterfly emerging she truly is…This post features a few from our first segment, which included a hike up a hill–a perfect metaphor for just the beginning of our visual, poetic, & collaborative journey…

erin • boudoir session
beauty & boudoir, danceAh, the lithe & lovely Erin Lamont! Gorgeous & talented & down-to-earth–the real triple threat! She’s a dancer & choreographer & generous model in every way. I tried to capture her in both her more relaxed, undone self, as well as her talented moving self. And when people describe a woman with “impossibly long legs”–that is meant for Erin! It was a thoroughly enjoyable, improvised shoot–and full of Erin’s authentic energy. Thank you, Erin, for the chance to “play” and capture your beauty! {Congratulations, Erin & Jesse, who are getting married this weekend! Here’s to love…& lust!}
