little ones, we are family

It was so fun to catch up with the Stackleathers! I have missed seeing them at my daughter’s school since they relocated a while ago. And what fun it was to see how big Noah & Lea have grown since our holiday photos two years ago. Noah is sporting a totally cool surfer ‘do to go with his fun, mellow personality. And Lea is a sparkly-eyed princess, complete with hot pink nails. Mama Bronwyn & Daddy Sonny are such a cute couple—they’ve got smiles for miles. A special treat was having three generations together, because we were joined by Suzanne & Tom, Bronwyn’s family. And Bronwyn styled everyone so beautifully in purple—such a rich, lively, fun color!

we are family

I didn’t get to meet the Pastoor family when we originally planned, several weeks ago, but as things turned out, we got to do our photo session on a perfect day, at the perfect time, in the perfect place. The golden, late afternoon sun was coming from all the right directions, shining down through the beautifully lined trees on the Loyola Marymount University campus–where Jolene & Art’s oldest son, Cooper just graduated from earlier this summer. Sister Taryn runs track at UCLA (Go, Bruins!), & Kelton happened to be celebrating his 17th birthday the day of our shoot. The Pastoors are an athletic family, & we had a really fun, high-energy session. And, in addition to the Lion & the Bear in the family, there’s also the Dog: Louis (get it? Pastoor?). No family portrait could be complete without him!

beach, little ones, outdoors

One of my greatest pleasures is catching up with families at regular intervals, seeing how the kids have grown & changed. For the last three years, I’ve gotten to do annual portraits of Marco, an energetic, imaginative, precocious boy whose mom is a creative, magical, ultra-feminine force of nature. Marco loves costumes, & each year, I feel honored that he tolerates my shooting away, while I follow him around, catching him being a kid. He clambers up rocky beaches & climbs trees with the ease of a monkey–it’s so inspiring to watch, & an exciting challenge to keep up with him! This year, we ventured to the coast, & he was on a mission of the imagination…

farewell to SoCal • the taka family

little ones, outdoors, we are family

Azusa & Tamehiko invited me to their home & its surroundings to commemorate their time living in Rancho Palos Verdes with their two sweet boys, Kei and Rui.  In early July, they relocated to the Midwest, & they wanted to take with them some memories of Kei’s favorite places near their home.  We had a wonderful, easy time, walking around while Kei showed me his favorite daisies, his “hopping stones,” & of course, his speedy tricycle.  Kei and my daughters attend the same preschool, & I only wish that our families had hung out more!  I will miss seeing his smiling face and talking with Azusa…I hope these photos will always remind them of their happy years in SoCal…Bon Voyage, Taka Family!
